December 4, 1991: Vice-President George Saitoti (right) confirms in Parliament that he was a target for murder through poisoning in February last year. This confirmed what President Moi (left) said on Tuesday about those who murdered Dr. Robert John Ouko also poisoned Prof Saitoti in an attempt to take over the Government. Speaking in an emotionally charged voice, Prof Saitoti told a hushed House that the people who tried to murder him last year were the same people who had tried to tarnish his reputation by dragging his name into the Ouko Commission of Inquiry. Allegations made by witnessed at the now disbanded Commission investigating the murder of Dr. Ouko claimed that Prof. Saitoti had sent someone to negotiate 10 % kickback commission for him.
