November 10, 1983: Queen Elizabeth (II) and the Duke of the Edinburgh jets into the country for a four-day State visit. A British Airways Tristar, the Astral Rose carrying the queen touched down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 3:47 pm flying the blue and gold royal standard above the cockpit. Here the queen and her host President Daniel Arap Moi acknowledging cheers from the crowds lining the route to State House Nairobi during the visit. Britain pledged to continue helping Kenya in bringing progress and a higher standard of living to all Kenyans.
