February 22, 1983: President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi frees 412 Kenya Air Force men and 61 Nairobi University and Kenyatta University College students who were held in connection with August 1, 1982, disturbances. A statement issued from State House, Nairobi said those freed must proceed to their respective homes and live among their parents and local communities. President said all those released must report to their chiefs from time to time until they fully settle down among their fellow countrymen.
