Description

October 17, 1990: The Attorney-General, Mathew Guy Muli wants Mr. Pheroze Nowrojee (left)who is appearing for the widow of Anglican Bishop Alexander Muge in the prelate’s death case, committed to prison for contempt. The lawyer is alleged to have published a letter addressed to the Registrar of the High Court of Kenya and copied to Mrs. Herma Muge. He allegedly also caused the letter to be published in the local dailies on October 5. In an application presented before Justice Joseph Mango the Deputy Chief Litigation Counsel, Mr. Moijo ole Keiua, produced a copy of the statement and an affidavit sworn by Police Superintendent Bakari Omari stating the circumstances of the alleged contempt. Pictured here with Prof Wangari Maathai and human rights activist Maina Kiai during a workshop on gender issues and the Constitution, at the Brackenhurst International Centre, Limuru in December 1996.
