November 2, 1966: President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta names Colonel Joseph Musyimi Lele Ndolo (Left) as the new Commander of the Kenya Army. President said Col. Ndolo who for the last two years had served with great distinction as Deputy Army Commander saying that the tour of duty of the present incumbent. Brig. J. A. Hardy had come to an end, the President added: Col. Ndolo will take over his new duties on December I, 1966, and on the same day he will be promoted to the rank of Brigadier. At the same time, the President named Lt.-Col. Jackson Kimeu Mulinge as Deputy Army commander. He had for nearly three years commanded the Third Battalion Kenya Rifles and has rendered most distinguished services to the Republic both in operations against shifts and in the battalion peace-time station.
