Description

August 21, 1961: Mzee Jomo Kenyatta steps out of his compound for the first time since his arrival at Gatundu a week ago – completely a free man again after the lifting of his final restriction order. Mr. Kenyatta immediately went on a tour of his 11-acre shamba with his brother, James Muigai (right). Jomo Kenyatta, Achieng Oneko, Bildad Kaggia, Fred Kubai, Kungu Karumba and Paul Ngei, were arrested in 1952 and brought before the court at Kapenguria, charged with being members of and managing an unlawful organization known as Mau Mau.
