March 28, 1971: President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta is complimented by Mr. Oginga Odinga, former leader of the banned Kenya People’s Union for ordering his release from detention and the release of other detained persons. In an interview with the Nation Mr. Odinga said at his home in Siaya District home that he was very grateful to the President for having ordered my release from detention and I hope he will be pleased to order the release of the other detainees’ brothers. Mr. Odinga said “I planted quite a few trees around the hut I was occupying in the arid Tana River District.
