Description

October 1, 1964: The first motion of no confidence against Kenya’s Prime Minister Jomo Kenyatta since independence is heavily defeated in the House of Representatives. As the Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Masinde Muliro rose to propose the motion, there were deafening shouts of “Shame” from packed Government benches. His motion said that the Prime Minister had failed to affect the resolution passed by the House earlier on East African Federation. Here, on the front row from left, Home Minister, Mr. Oginga Odinga, Prime Minister Jomo Kenyatta, Health Minister Mr. Masinde Muliro and Dr. Njoroge Mungai. Behind the Prime Minister is Mr. Fred Kubai and other guests on January 12, 1964.
