April 19, 1968: Kenya People’s Union (KPU) Deputy Leader Bildad Mwaganu Kaggia (right) is sentenced to 12 months imprisonment. Kisii Resident Magistrate James Nyarangi convicted him for holding an unlawful meeting at Miriu Market in South Nyanza. In this photo, Mr. Kaggia enters the KPU office at Ruring’u, Nyeri together with KPU branch officials after he had reopened the office with thumbs raised, the supporters repeated the KPU slogan “Dume” after Mr. Kaggia in September 1967.
