Description

Central Organization of Trade Unions Secretary General, Francis Atwoli addressing journalists at the Kenya Plantation and Agricultural Workers Union offices in Nakuru on October 13, 2016. He hit out at the Ethics and anti-corruption Commission chief executive officer Michael Mubea accusing him of interfering with ongoing recruitment of the Chief Executive Officer at the National Social Security Fund. He said the EACC had written to NSSF Board of Trustees chairman Gideon Ndambuki to appear at the commission’s offices on October 11 to record statements. He said that the powers of appointing NSSF CEO and managing trustee does not lie in the hand of EACC but rather in the hands of NSSF Board. Atwoli said that it was unrealistic for EACC to summon Ndambuki barely less than six months after he assumed office. He pointed out that after the board appoints the CEO, EACC can thereafter investigate the appointee based on his or her past record. He said that as a worker’s representative in the NSSF board, he will move to court to stop EACC from interfering with the ongoing recruitment.
