Description

July 11, 1991: Former legislator George Moseti Anyona (center) and three other men are jailed for seven years each for holding a seditious meeting whose intention was to overthrow the Government. In a tension-packed courtroom, Senior Resident Magistrate Francis Mabele also sentenced Mr. Anyona to four years for two counts of possessing seditious documents and prohibited publications. A similar four-year sentence was meted out to an Embu Kanu official, Augustine Njeru Kathangu (Left), for possessing seditious documents. He is also expected to serve 18 months for two other counts. All the sentences will run concurrently. Others jailed were Prof. Edward Akong’o Oyugi, Isaiah Ngotho Kariuki. Seen here in court in July 1991.
