August 19, 1965. East African Heads of State, Jomo Kenyatta (Kenya), Julius Nyerere (Tanzania) and Milton Obote (Uganda) hold a summit in Nairobi and reaffirm their desire for the continuation and the strengthening of the Common Services and the Common Market and agreed on a full-scale conference planned later in the month with top Cabinet Ministers from all partner nations. Here, from left, presidents Nyerere, Obote and Kenyatta relax in the grounds of State Lodge, Entebbe before attending the formal inauguration of Makerere University and installation of president Obote as the university’s first Chancellor.
